Abstract

This article discusses Catholic Social Teaching and the evolution which it underwent from the time of Leo XIII to that of John Paul II. The main structural change took place in the 2nd half of the twentieth century, and involved a shift of emphasis from "intrasystemic" to global perspectives. The author addresses three issues with respect to such teaching: the importance of the current curriculum, the general usefulness of Catholic Social Teaching for solving the problems of the modern world, and its legitimacy.
