Abstract

In this article, the author discusses two attitudes to the problem of the origin of the human soul: creationism (each soul is always produced by God) and traducianism (the human soul was created by God in a unique act of creation at the time of our first parents, and since then is passed to children by parents). The author presents the philosophical and theological aspects of both approaches; in his opinion, contemporary research in human embryology leaves room for an acceptance of the traducianist position.
